It would be fair to say that Sunderland have lost two of their best youth products in recent times. In the summer, Joel Asoro left the club to join Swansea City. In January, Josh Maja joined Bordeaux in a deal reported by The Chronicle to be in the region of £3.5 million.
The situation with both of those players should spring Sunderland into action regarding another of their top talents, namely, Benjamin Kimpioka.

The Swedish teenager has impressed when given a chance by Sunderland and looks like a potential star of the future. However, he is out of contract in 18 months and the Black Cats could be at risk of losing yet another star talent.
Sunderland chairman Stewart Donald has even addressed the situation during a conversation with the Roker Rapport podcast.
“We might be in the same boat with Benji (Kimpioka), who is in the last year of his contract next season. Doing it after the event, the price just goes through the roof…
“We’re taking a gamble on them. Are they taking a gamble on us? We’re Sunderland Football Club. We can’t have this again. It’s absolutely ridiculous.”
So the club know of Kimpioka’s contract situation, they must now ensure a new deal is signed before the start of next season.
Asor was in the final year of his Sunderland deal when Swansea plucked him away. Maja was approaching the final six months of his.
Sunderland must ensure they have learned their lesson, as the Swedish teenager could be a future star at the Stadium of Light.
