Sunderland managed to win an embattled point against Bolton Wanderers yesterday, with Aiden McGeady’s late penalty securing a draw with the Trotters.
However, one of the club’s loan players was enjoying a far better day at the office as he scored the winning goal in his League Two fixture.
Sunderland sent out midfielder Ethan Robson to Grimsby Town for a six-month loan deal in the summer.
It came off the back of a stint at Scottish club Dundee for the second half of last season. The 22-year-old follows in the footsteps of Sunderland talent Elliot Embleton, who had a productive spell at Blundell Park in 2018-19.

Robson, who was back in the starting XI for the Mariners, cur in from the left-hand side before hitting a sublime right-footed finish beyond the Macclesfield goalkeeper for a 1-0 win.
It was a great moment for Robson, scoring his first goal for his loan club on his first start.
Grimsby’s next match is their EFL Trophy clash with Chelsea and Robson will undoubtedly be hoping he has done enough to feature against the current Europa League holders.
If so, he will look to demonstrate to Sunderland just what he can offer against top opposition.
