In January, Sunderland wanted strikers. Jack Ross had lost Josh Maja to Bordeaux whilst Jerome Sinclair’s loan spell had also come to an end. With Charlie Wyke struggling to find top form, reinforcements were needed.
In the end, he got them, with Will Grigg and Kazaiah Sterling both joining the Black Cats.
But the list of strikers Sunderland were trying to bring in was a long one.
One such player was Plymouth Argyle frontman Freddie Ladapo. As reported by the Plymouth Herald, Sunderland had a £400,000 bid for his services rejected on transfer deadline day.

Some Sunderland fans might have been wondering if that was a blessing. Ladapo recently went on a run of just one goal in 12 games. Hardly exciting stuff.
But at the weekend he highlighted exactly why Sunderland were initially keen.
He scored twice as Plymouth thrashed Rochdale 5-1 at Home Park. It took his tally for the season to 15 goals and served as a swift reminder of the electric form he showed during the first few months of the campaign.
Sunderland might want to keep tabs on the player for the summer, as he could be a huge hit at the Stadium of Light.
