Sunderland fans want Daniel Stendel as next manager

Sunderland are looking for a successor to Jack Ross as manager – and some Sunderland fans on Twitter have claimed they want to see Daniel Stendel replace him.

The Black Cats sacked Ross on Tuesday and he leaves the Stadium of Light with the team sat sixth in the League One table.

He was unable to deliver promotion last season after falling in the play-offs and the club are now keen for a new man to try get them back in the Championship.

According to TEAMtalk, Kevin Phillips, Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink and Gary Rowett have all applied for the vacant Sunderland position.

It is understood that Wigan’s Paul Cook and Coventry City’s Mark Robins are attracting interest from the North East club, who have also already made contact with Stendel.

Stendel was dismissed as Barnsley manager on Tuesday and Sunderland have wasted no time by approaching him.

The 45-year-old German leaves Oakwell with his side in the relegation places of the Championship, but he was a popular figure at Barnsley and helped them win promotion from League One last season.

A selection of Sunderland supporters on social media are convince that Stendel is a great fit to be the club’s next manager.

His Barnsley team achieved promotion last season from the third-tier playing an attractive offensive style of football and just hasn’t been able to replicate that in the Championship, with the loss of key players certainly a factor.

Here are some Sunderland fans on Stendel:
