Sunderland fans rip into Grant Leadbitter after Burton loss

Grant Leadbitter rejoined Sunderland last January.

Sunderland fans were once again left bemused by Phil Parkinson’s decision to start Grant Leadbitter.

The Black Cats were beaten at home by Burton Albion to plunge to a new low under Parkinson. He has just two wins in 11 games since taking over from Jack Ross and the promotion hopes are taking a hit.

Leadbitter has been a regular under Parkinson and Sunderland fans have criticised the decision to stick with him. The 33-year-old operates in central midfield but his performances have been under scrutiny.

It seems that Leadbitter – who started his career at Sunderland – is past his best. There are other more dynamic options in midfield but Parkinson has played safe with the inclusion of Leadbitter.

After the loss against Burton, Sunderland fans were quick to take to Twitter and criticise a host of players. Leadbitter was one of many who were blasted on social media for their part in the 2-1 defeat.

This has become a recurring theme for Leadbitter this season. The former Middlesbrough man can’t seem to recapture his form. Here are some tweets about him.
