George Dobson received a red card as Sunderland were held at home against Blackpool.

Sunderland drew 1-1 with Blackpool with Charlie Wyke scoring the equaliser. Blackpool had taken an early lead through Matty Virtue-Thick but Wyke levelled things before half-time.

As Sunderland went in search of an equaliser, their momentum was halted. Dobson received his second yellow card for a challenge on Armand Gnanduillet on 78 minutes.

Sunderland had to play the final 12 minutes of the match with 10 men. Dobson’s dismissal meant Sunderland could not push for a late winner. They have dropped down to 12th place as a result.

It has been a difficult season for Sunderland, who have not enjoyed success under Jack Ross or Phil Parkinson. Just about in the top half, Sunderland are four points off the play-offs and nine points below the automatic promotion spots.

After the game, Sunderland fans were highly critical of Dobson. The 22-year-old midfielder will now serve a one-match ban. But many Sunderland fans do not think this is a bad thing – as seen by the below tweets.
