Will Grigg missed a host of opportunities in Sunderland’s 1-1 draw with Bolton Wanderers yesterday. There were question marks over Marc McNulty’s fitness so Grigg started for Sunderland instead.
The Northern Ireland striker has struggled for Sunderland this season but this was a great opportunity for him. Back in the starting line-up, Grigg was unable to turn things around for himself.
Grigg led the line for Sunderland but missed two glorious chances. He will be left ruing those missed opportunities as he received pelters from Sunderland fans on social media.

He is clearly lacking confidence and that showed as he twice headed wide when unmarked from close-range. When McNulty is fully fit, Grigg will surely slip behind him in the pecking order.
Charlie Wyke is also struggling so Sunderland have looked a bit toothless in attack without McNulty. Grigg failed to inspire Sunderland to victory against struggling Bolton in yesterday’s game.
Sunderland fans took to Twitter to express their frustration at Grigg’s performance. Here are some tweets discussing his missed chances at Bolton.
