Jack Ross has been sacked as the manager of Sunderland – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have reacted with great positivity to the update.
The Black Cats have confirmed on their official website on Tuesday afternoon that they have terminated the contract of the 43-year-old.
He has been at the Stadium of Light since May 2018 and his team lost in the League One play-off final last season to Charlton Athletic, as well as in the EFL Trophy final to Portsmouth.
Sunderland currently sit sixth in the league table after the opening 11 league games and that has forced the club into dismissing him from his position.
He arrived in the North East with a decent reputation after his spell in Scotland with St Mirren, but he was unable to earn promotion back to the Championship and his last result in charge of Sunderland was a 2-0 defeat away to Lincoln City at the weekend.
A selection of Sunderland supporters on social media have expressed their delight with the exit of Ross and view it as a smart decision by the club.
All eyes will now turn onto who will be his successor and assistant manager James Fowler will take temporary charge in the meantime.
Here are some Sunderland fans reacting to the Ross news:
Thank you Jack.
It didn’t work out but I can honestly say I’d have been chuffed if it had.
Good luck for the future.

Ross leaving has felt inevitable since the Southend game last season. He seemed like a nice bloke but his tactics were god awful. Hopefully whomever comes in is more adventurous #SAFC

I’m not surprised Ross has left but I really don’t know who would come to us and it will be interesting to see how this will affect a team that Ross basically built himself #safc

Jack Ross did his best, came in at a difficult time but ultimately was not quite up to the job. Wish him all the best, a good bloke, but it was the correct decision to let him go.#safc

As for Jack Ross, it takes A LOT for me to turn on an #SAFC manager. But under him, highly doubt we’d have gone up.
Gave me my first trip to Wembley & favourite away day at Rochdale in April. But it was the right decision to sack him.
Ainsworth or Stendal my preferred choices.

Jack Ross seemed a canny lad. Wrong man for us though. #safc
