At the start of the season Sunderland fans were fairly frustrated with the performances of left-back Denver Hume. The 23-year-old was struggling, especially in a left wing-back role, and fans were disappointed at his standard of play.
Yesterday, as Sunderland picked up an impressive 3-1 win at Accrington Stanley, that was certainly not the case.
The defender put in one of his best performances yet in a Sunderland shirt and it did not go unnoticed.
The best moment from his display would have to be his assist. In a difficult position out wide he managed to dig out a left-foot cross. His delivery found Lynden Gooch and the American supplied an acrobatic finish to level the score at 1-1.

It was a tremendous piece of play from the Sunderland left-back and one that he thoroughly deserved based on his performance.
He now has a battle on his hands holding on to the number one left-back slot at Sunderland. Laurens De Bock has arrived from Leeds United on loan and is working on getting up to full fitness after a summer in the wilderness at Elland Road.
With performances like this, the Belgian might have to wait a little longer before getting his chance at Sunderland.
