Sunderland fans react to Denver Hume performance against Ipswich Town

Sunderland played out a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town at Portman Road yesterday and will be pleased to have come away with a point after a difficult first-half display.

Luke Garbutt gave the Tractor Boys the lead in the 15th minute but Lynden Gooch’s 64th-minute goal gave Sunderland a share of the spoils.

It was another tough game for Sunderland, following their opening day draw with Oxford United.

The second-half display was certainly better after the withdrawal of left-back Denver Hume. For the second week in a row, the 23-year-old struggled and on this occasion, Jack Ross hauled him off for Chris Maguire at half-time.

Unfortunately, the Academy of Light graduate simply does not look up to scratch at this level and Sunderland fans were not exactly in a forgiving mood on Twitter.

However, others were less frustrated with Hume and targeted their anger toward the manager and board.

Hume is being asked to play in an advanced left-back position which is clearly not suiting his style of play. On top of that, Sunderland have failed to bring in replacements for both Bryan Oviedo and Reece James this summer, leaving Hume as an out of depth first-choice left-back.
