Sunderland ran out 3-1 winners against AFC Wimbledon yesterday after an excellent performance at the Stadium of Light.
It was also fairly clear who the star player was in this game. Chris Maguire found his best form with a hat-trick performance that rendered Kwesi Appiah’s headed goal for the opponents unpunished.
But whilst Maguire will receive most of the plaudits in attack, Charlie Wyke also had an excellent game.
The former Bradford City striker had a torrid campaign at Sunderland last season. He struggled with injury trouble throughout the season and Sunderland fans were certainly left disappointed by his impact on Wearside. He managed just five goals in 30 appearances for the Black Cats.
But he has recently shown why Sunderland decided to bring him in in the first place with some good displays, including a winning strike against Rochdale in midweek.
This was an even more eye-catching display. Wyke was an absolute menace for the Wimbledon defenders and Sunderland fans were over the moon at his latest positive display.
Hopefully, he can stay fit and continue to showcase such form throughout the season.
