Sunderland fans react as Newcastle reportedly set to raid rivals for 43-year-old
Newcastle are reportedly set to raid Sunderland for Under 23’s manager Elliott Dickman – and fans of the League One side have reacted on Twitter.
Dickman, 43, has been on the Sunderland books for as much as 26 years. Initially a player, he was forced to retire at just the age of 20 from football.
It saw him initially join the Sunderland coaching staff, before taking the leap towards management as gaffer of the second string in 2017.
Now, Newcastle are set to raid the Stadium of Light club for Dickman. They want to hire the Sunderland second-string boss, as per a Mail report.
The Toon’s new owners also spoke to ex-Newcastle man Shefki Kuqi – but it seems they have chosen to raid their closest of rivals instead, for Dickman.
Chris Hogg left the role as Newcastle Under-23 gaffer in the summer, being replaced by Steve Harper. But Dickman arrives as a long-term replacement.
What are Sunderland fans saying about Newcastle hiring Dickman?
Managing his side in PL2 since joining, Dickman’s record is not impressive – but he has been tasked with keeping them above the bottom positions.
The Black Cats are flirting, once again, with the bottom places in the second tier of Premier League 2. They have lost six of nine games, winning three.
But with Sunderland in League One, plenty of players have gone from the stewardship of Dickman into Lee Johnson’s senior side over the years.
Sunderland fans have reacted to reports that Dickman is set to leave the club, and join Newcastle. It has been met with a mixed reaction.
