Sunderland fans react as Josh Maja scores a hat-trick for Bordeaux

Ex-Sunderland striker Josh Maja bagged his first-ever career hat-trick on Tuesday night.

Bordeaux beat Nimes 6-0 in Ligue 1 and Maja scored three goals. The 20-year-old, who joined Bordeaux from Sunderland in January, is now hitting a hot streak of form.

Maja netted in his last game against Reims, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Then, he followed this up with a treble against Nimes to take his season tally to six goals in 15 matches. He also has one assist, which came in the 6-0 victory over Nimes.

The London-born star had been in red-hot goalscoring form for Sunderland prior to his move. He struck 15 goals in 24 League One matches as a teenager before his January 2019 switch to France.

After a slow start in Ligue 1, Maja is now finding his feet. The young striker has scored seven goals in 22 games for Bordeaux now and will be hoping to build on his hat-trick.

Meanwhile, Sunderland are still stuck in League One and they are in mid-table. Will Grigg is leading the line and he has only scored once in the league so far. Here are some tweets from Sunderland fans about Maja’s hat-trick.
