Sunderland captain George Honeyman is close to moving to Championship club Hull City, according to the Sunderland Echo
They report that the 24-year-old will join the Tigers in the coming days, with his lingering knee problem not expected to be an issue in passing a medical.
Honeyman has always split the opinion of the fanbase and that only intensified when he was named captain.
The theory was that as a local boy and supporter, he would epitomise the work-rate the supporters demand, but many felt he lacked the quality required and the scrutiny was intense as skipper.

That’s reflected in the response to his impending departure – not too many fans are gutted to lose him, but many do want their club to bring in somebody better.
In truth, the move will help Honeyman too – despite the fact he’ll be leaving his boyhood club – because he will be under less pressure as well as moving up a division at the same time.
Honeyman will likely become a workmanlike midfielder, who may even reach the Premier League, but the pressure of being an inspirational leader when his boyhood club were at their lowest ebb has now been lifted.
