Sunderland have confirmed that Ethan Robson will spend half a season on loan at Grimsby Town. Robson drops down a division and joins League Two outfit Grimsby on loan until January.
Robson plays as a central midfielder but is finding game time hard to come by. With Max Power, George Dobson, Grant Leadbitter, Luke O’Nien and Elliot Embleton also on their books, Sunderland are unable to give Robson the chances he wants.

Jack Ross has decided to let Robson leave and head on loan for half of this campaign. Last season, Ross let Embleton join Grimsby and Robson will be hoping to emulate his team-mate’s success.
The 22-year-old was at Dundee last season and now he will get a chance to impress with Grimsby. If he impresses, then perhaps he can add to his 14 senior appearances for the Black Cats.
Sunderland fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Robson’s loan departure. In pre-season, there was plenty of talk suggesting he would get a first-team promotion this year. But another loan spell is disappointing news for some supporters. Here are some of the best tweets reacting to Robson’s loan exit.
