Sunderland are reportedly closing in on a loan deal for Rangers winder Jordan Jones as the Northern Ireland international continues to struggle for game time at Ibrox – and Sunderland supporters have reacted on Twitter.

Jones, 26, has struggled since swapping Kilmarnock for Rangers – playing just 19 league games since his move in the summer of 2019. This season, he has been afforded just four appearances in all competitions, though he did score against Motherwell.

But the former Middlesbrough man finds himself some way down the pecking order. The likes of Ryan Kent, Ianis Hagi, Kemar Roofe, Greg Stewart, Brandon Barker and more remain options – making game time a premium for Jones.

He has a contract at Ibrox until the summer of 2023 and there is plenty of time for Jones to resurrect his Rangers spell – but he needs a loan and game time. The Daily Record claim that is about to come in the form of League One side Sunderland.

Sunderland currently sit in seventh place, one point behind the play-offs but with two games in hand on sixth-placed Charlton. But the addition of Jones could help them break into those play-off positions and even close in on the top two.

Certainly, that is what Sunderland fans think. Many are excited by the addition of the speed machine winger, and one fan has even posted on Twitter: “What we’ve needed for the past two seasons.”
