Sunderland have been rocked with the news that Bailey Wright will be out of action for eight to 12 weeks (Official Website). The on-loan centre-back suffered an ankle injury in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Oxford United.
The 27-year-old arrived at the Stadium of Light in January and has revived Sunderland’s fortunes. Phil Parkinson’s team have won four games out of five without conceding a goal since Wright signed from Bristol City.
He hobbled off after 84 minutes on Saturday and the prognosis isn’t positive for the Black Cats.

If he missed the full 12 weeks he would probably be back for the play-offs should Sunderland reach them. Parkinson’s men are currently fifth in League One, just three points off second place.
Naturally, this news has rocked the Sunderland supporters. They had been delighted with the impact made by Wright since his arrival and now fear they will miss his uncompromising presence.
The ex-Preston North End man is a proven performer at Championship level and it had been seen as a coup for Sunderland when he checked-in last month.

Following this awful news, supporters have taken to Twitter to discuss his absence. Many are obviously hoping to doesn’t curtail their promotion hopes, although some fear it might.
Here is a selection of tweets from Sunderland fans after Wright’s lengthy absence was revealed.
