Denver Hume produced an impressive display from left-back as Sunderland beat Tranmere Rovers in the midweek League One clash.

Sunderland won 5-0 to give Phil Parkinson his first win since taking over from Jack Ross. After losing at Wycombe Wanderers at the weekend, Parkinson picked up three points in his first home match in charge.

The Black Cats were dominant from the start. Goals from Duncan Watmore, Chris Maguire, Lynden Gooch, Will Grigg and Luke O’Nien sealed a convincing win.

But keeping a clean sheet was equally impressive, given Sunderland’s defensive woes this season. The defensive unit was strong and Hume had an impressive game at left-back.

Parkinson selected Hume to start on the left side of the back four and he showed his ability defensively and with his attacking duties. It was an important performance for the 21-year-old, who has been criticised this season.

Under Jack Ross, Hume looked like Sunderland’s weak link. But he has shown that he can perform after Parkinson kept the faith. Here are some Sunderland fans reacting to Hume’s display.
