Sunderland fans not pleased with reported Gareth Ainsworth interest
Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth is reportedly on a shortlist as Sunderland search for a new manager – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have insisted he would be a bad choice.
According to Sky Sports, the Black Cats have five individuals on a shortlist to replace recently sacked Jack Ross and they all currently manage other clubs.
The report explains that the North East club have requested permission to speak to the five managers about a role at the Stadium of Light.
Ainsworth has been in charge at Wycombe since 2012 and is the latest name to be linked to the vacant role at Sunderland.
He achieved promotion from League Two in the 2017/18 campaign and this season his side sit second in League One, with a four point cushion in the table ahead of Sunderland.
The 46-year-old is renowned as someone that gets the best out of his players as a coach and he’s had an incredible ride with Wycombe so far.

A selection of Sunderland supporters on social media don’t believe Ainsworth is the right fit for them and are concerned by news he’s on the club’s shortlist.
Here are some Sunderland fans commenting on Ainsworth:

Houghton os Stendel for me. Season ticket won’t be used if Ainsworth gets the job. Couldn’t watch Ainsworth style of football.

I’d genuinely rather re-appoint Jack Ross than have Gareth Ainsworth.
