Sunderland fans fume at ‘pointless’ striker Charlie Wyke after Accrington draw

Charlie Wyke started in the draw against Accrington Stanley on Friday night – and many of the Sunderland fans on Twitter ripped him to shreds for his performance.

The Black Cats earned just a point at the Stadium of Light in the League One fixture, but did recover a two-goal deficit in the second-half.

Visitors Accrington were on course for a win courtesy of goals from Billy Kee and Paul Smyth, but manager Jack Ross did watch his team strike back.

Sunderland netted through George Honeyman and Aiden McGeady to earn a 2-2 draw and it means they are third in the league table.

A selection of Sunderland fans on social media were fuming with Wyke for his individual performance and believe he offered very little in attack.

The 26-year-old centre-forward was recalled to the starting XI, but lasted just 54 minutes before being taken off and Sunderland’s comeback started instantly after.

He was given another chance by his manager, but couldn’t repay the faith by struggling to keep the ball up top and he also missed a great opportunity in front of goal from close-range.

Wyke has just two goals across all competitions this season and he could be set for another stint on the sidelines based on his latest contribution.

Here are some Sunderland fans criticising Wyke:
