Sunderland fans criticise Denver Hume after Bolton draw

Sunderland fans were furious with most of the players in yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Bolton Wanderers. Jack Ross’ men had to rely on an injury-time penalty to save a point in the League One clash with Bolton.

This leaves Sunderland in fifth place after nine games – but there have been four draws and a loss this season already. This is not the type of form that will take Sunderland up through the automatic places.

Plenty of Sunderland players were criticised on Twitter after the game. And Denver Hume was one of those. The Black Cats left-back was guilty of some defensive lapses, allowing Bolton’s attackers to run riot on the counter-attack.

The 21-year-old has often been criticised this season after taking the first-choice left-back spot. Reece James and Bryan Oviedo both left this summer, as well as right-back Adam Matthews.

This has propelled Hume into the first-team on a regular basis but he has struggled at times. Laurens De Bock is also on Sunderland’s books but he is not match fit yet. Here are some tweets reacting to Hume’s latest display.
