Sunderland fans are elated to have Oviedo back after extended injury lay-off

Sunderland defender Bryan Oviedo has been out since January but made his return from injury in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Rochdale.

The late winner from George Honeyman grabbed the headlines and boosted the mood around the club, and the defender’s comeback only served to add to that feel-good factor.

They are still in prime position to get automatic promotion – level on points with second-placed Barnsley but with two games in hand and Oviedo will hope to have a major part to play in the run-in.

His experience and quality should be vital and the way he stuck with the club following last season’s relegation appears to have earned him a lot of goodwill, as well as the way he has battled back from injury.

The Sunderland fans are buzzing to have him back and responded with many messages of goodwill to the defender’s post on Twitter thanking them for the support during his injury absence.

Everyone connected to the club looks to be coming together to put the Checkatrade Trophy defeat against Portsmouth behind them and get promoted at the first time of asking and the supporters want Oviedo to be a massive part of it…
