For all his quality, Daniel Sturridge is still made of glass

When he opened the scoring on his first Premier League start since mid-October, it seemed as though things could be looking up for Daniel Sturridge as he was making the most of his latest opportunity up front for Jurgen Klopp.

The England international showed his poacher’s instinct to pounce and head home from a corner when Dejan Lovren scuffed his initial attempt into the ground, with Sturridge on hand to open the scoring with a well taken header to show superb reactions and instincts that Roberto Firmino has been lacking.

However, his substitution ten minutes from the end only went to extend his poor luck with injuries. Having already missed six games through injury and only making his first start after recovering from a calf injury at the Stadium of Light, Sturridge will have his fingers crossed that his withdrawal was a precautionary measure after picking up a knock, particularly with Sadio Mane set to go to the African Cup of Nations.
