While the large majority of Leeds United fans were devastated to see Marcelo Bielsa leave the club, there is no question that some players may have wondered whether they would benefit from the change – and Crysencio Summerville was surely one of them.

Summerville made his first-team debut for Leeds under Bielsa. However, he has only made one Premier League appearance since the end of October.

Bielsa confirmed that Summerville asked to leave during the January transfer window amid links with a loan move.

So Summerville may have felt that he had been given something of a boost with Jesse Marsch coming in. He has kept his place on the bench in the American’s first three games in charge.

And following his latest under-23 display for the Whites, it would certainly appear that Summerville is ready to take his game to another level – and perhaps find a way to contribute to the first-team before the campaign concludes.

The Dutchman was the star of the show on Tuesday as they thrashed Manchester United. They won 3-0 in front of more than 9,000 people at Elland Road.

Summerville was absolutely outstanding. He played a key role in the opening goal. And he nearly set up one after an amazing burst forward. He also came so close to scoring a delicious lob over the goalkeeper.

Ben Parker described his pace as ‘absolutely frightening‘ while on commentary. And it did seem that Manchester United could not find a way to contain the 20-year-old.

There were a couple of poor challenges on him in and around the penalty area over the course of the evening. And with Marsch in attendance, Summerville is surely one Leeds youngster who made a major impression on the new first-team boss.

Obviously, it would be asking a lot for Summerville to feature while Leeds’ situation is so precarious. But he looks to be just behind Raphinha, Jack Harrison and Daniel James in the pecking order.

Based on Tuesday’s showing, Summerville could yet be a surprise package for Leeds in the final weeks of the season if he gets a chance.
