'Suddenly': Tottenham may make move for £42.5m centre-back if Rodon and Tanganga leave - journalist

Tottenham could be in the market for another centre-back this summer if Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga leave, according to highly regarded journalist Alasdair Gold.

In a YouTube video talking about the next phase of Tottenham’s transfer plans this summer, Gold explains that Spurs may look to recruit another defensive option if there are outgoings in the next few weeks.

“If they (Tottenham) make another central defensive addition, which I think they will if (Joe) Rodon and (Japhet) Tanganga possibly head off, and maybe even Davinson Sanchez if a bid comes in, then I think they bring in someone else.”

“That’s somebody who can either play centrally or on the right, especially if it’s Sanchez that they got a good bid for.”

Antonio Conte is apparently unsure about whether to let Joe Rodon leave Tottenham, while Tanganga has reportedly wants to join Italian champions AC Milan this summer.

Spurs have already brought in a centre-back in this window, with Clement Lenglet joining on loan from Barcelona, and he may start the opening game of the season in the left centre-back role after reports that Ben Davies may not be fit for Tottenham’s opening game against Southampton.

Torres could be Tottenham’s next centre-back move

RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol and Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni were Tottenham’s two main centre-back targets this summer, but neither player could be prised away from their clubs, according to Alasdair Gold.

However, Gold said if Spurs would be open to going in a different direction if the right opportunity arose, and that could see them bid for £42.5m-rated Villarreal defender Pau Torres.

“They (Tottenham) may suddenly make a move for Pau Torres if the deal becomes a really good one.”

Antonio Conte’s side have already been one of the busiest Premier League clubs in the market so far, bringing in six players including Richarlison, Ivan Perisic and Djed Spence.
