Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club announced that Tyrone Mings would be replacing Jack Grealish as captain.

What’s the story?

Well, it’s a significant moment in the 28-year-old’s career.

The 13-cap England international has been handed the armband by Dean Smith, following Grealish’s £100m move to Manchester City.

Aston Villa have also announced that John McGinn will be the club’s new vice-captain.

Mings made 36 Premier League appearances last season as the Villans kept the third-most clean sheets in the division, recording 15 shutouts.

Only Manchester City and Chelsea kept more, which is testament to Mings and his fellow defenders at Villa Park.

No better choice than Tyrone Mings

There are few better choices for the armband at Villa Park than Mings, if any.

He is a vocal presence, who isn’t afraid to speak his mind on topics he feels strongly about – just look at his response to Priti Patel after EURO 2020.

If the £80,000-a-week man is able to call out things like this, you can bet he calls out his teammates if he feels the need to.

With McGinn also in a leadership role, another vocal figure, the Villans are in good hands as the 2021/22 season gets underway.
