‘Such an influential figure’: Pundit raves about £7m Rangers ace who’s at his ‘most confident’

Glasgow Rangers ace Ryan Kent has been described by Alan Stubbs as “such an influential figure” for the Ibrox side and a player who’s “at his most confident”.

The 23-year-old initially joined Rangers in the summer of 2018 on a season-long loan from Liverpool and he instantly impressed for Steven Gerrard’s side.

The former Barnsley and Bristol City loanee scored six goals and claimed nine assists in 43 appearances for Rangers in all competitions, his exploits making him a fan favourite with the Bears.

Rangers went on to spend £7million (Record) to sign Kent last summer, and although he had a mixed 2019-20 campaign, he has been fantastic this term.

In 12 appearances for the Gers in all competitions, Kent has registered five goals and five assists, including four goals and three assists in the Scottish Premiership.

His efforts have helped Rangers to the top of the table and, ahead of Saturday’s trip to Celtic, Stubbs named him in a combined Old Firm XI.

“I tried to get him when I was at Rotherham just after his loan at Barnsley,” he told the Scottish Sun.

“I watched a normal winger where one game he could be absolutely brilliant, and the next game you wouldn’t even know he was on the pitch.

“When you’re young, the hardest thing to find is a consistent level. He’s obviously played more games and gone to Rangers for big money. His first season was mixed.

“I think what you’re seeing now is Kent at his most confident. He has more of an impact in games now than what he has been doing.

“Rather than have a five or ten minute spell, he is starting to affect the game in larger spells now.

“When he’s not there, they miss his creativity, his goals and his pace. He’s become such an influential figure in that team now.”

Kent wasn’t quite at his best last season, but then again, plenty of other Rangers players weren’t, and this season, it’s a different story.

The attacking ace is not only finding the back of the net but also providing ammunition for his teammates, and this weekend, he’ll get the chance to deal the Gers’ bitter rivals some damage.
