A number of Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that Joe Gelhardt has withdrawn from England under-20 duty due to injury.

Gelhardt has been a key topic of conversation amongst supporters throughout his time at Elland Road.

More recently, he was being lauded after producing a stunning cameo and changing the game in the 1-1 draw with Wolves. It was his remarkable run that led to the Whites receiving a penalty in stoppage-time.

It looked to be a performance that cemented his spot in and around the first-team. So it caused quite a lot of concern when he was not named in the match day squad for Sunday’s clash with Leicester City.

Marcelo Bielsa confirmed after the draw that Gelhardt had sustained a slight knock. And thus, the forward was not fully fit.

Interestingly, Bielsa claimed that it was not an injury. Instead, he suggested that discomfort was the reason for his absence.

Unfortunately, it appears that the problem may not have resolved itself. It was announced on Tuesday that the 19-year-old has pulled out of the England under-20 squad.

It remains to be seen just how long Gelhardt is out for. The encouraging news is that Leeds obviously have almost a fortnight before they take to the field to face Tottenham.

But there are concerns amongst supporters. The Whites have endured a rotten run of luck with injuries this season.
