What is a good season for the north London club Tottenham Hotspur? Having been present in the Champions League for the first time in their history in the last few years, they have not been back at Europe’s top table since and must have aspirations to have a sustained return one day soon.
A good season for Tottenham is finishing in 5th place. I cannot see Tottenham finishing any higher this season, that isn’t because the club isn’t good enough but because, for another consecutive season the club doesn’t have consistency. We have had different managers coming in giving different ideas and playing styles, then asking the players to adapt quickly?
But Friedel has no doubt Spurs will be in the mix for Champions League qualification.
“We have a very good chance of getting into the top four,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on TalkSport. “I like what I’ve seen so far [in pre-season] and the players we have are outstanding.
“It’s up to us as players to adapt to the new manager’s style and, if we do that and hit the ground running, you’ll see a very good Tottenham side this season.”(Talksport)
“The game is about glory”, that’s what the fans say! We just want a decent cup run and even look to win that cup.
The Europa league is the best way we can qualify for the Champions League and i feel Pochettino will give that competition a fair crack of the whip. If we use our whole squad and rotate the squad properly we will go far in this competition. To be honest the squad has enough quality to at least get the Semi-finals as the minimum.
Pochettino has vowed to take the Europa league seriously. He said: “Tottenham, in every competition that we enter, you need to think, ‘We win the competition’. We need this mentality.
“And, the Europa League – if we play the Europa League – we need to play to win.”
If Tottenham want to finish any higher, we will need to score more goals in the league, last season the north London club struggled massively in this area of the game.
Tottenham had a poor goal difference, it was the worst in the top 4. Everton’s goal difference was +22 and Tottenham’s was +4 . We need more players to contribute goals, especially players like Townsend who’s shot to goal ratio is so poor! Lennon who looked promising during pre-season but his shot accuracy again is poor.
Now the squad has sorted the defense out i expect less defensive errors. If Tottenham Hotspur can keep Kaboul fit he will also be key, when he is fit he is a top defender. Dawson has no place in the team he cannot play the high line and he lacks considerable pace.
