Sturridge’s experience of title chase under Rodgers could prove vital for Liverpool

Liverpool are considering giving Daniel Sturridge an extended contract at Anfield, according to the Daily Mail.

The Englishman’s injury struggles are well-documented but he has improved his fitness this season and the Mail report that Jurgen Klopp feels it would be difficult to secure a backup striker of the same quality if he were to lose Sturridge.

But the former Manchester City striker’s contract is up at the end of the season, which raises the prospect that Liverpool could lose him for nothing during the summer.

On top of that, foreign clubs are able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with Sturridge and the Mail report that he is not short of suitors from Europe and Asia.

They claim that Sevilla, Valencia, Monaco, AC Milan and Inter join Chinese Super League outfits among Sturridge’s admirers, which may force Liverpool into life this month.

They would be wise to tie him down and Sturridge reportedly wants to be part of the Liverpool side that makes a title push; and goes one better than the thrilling 2013/14 outfit he spearheaded alongside Luis Suarez, which went so close to clinching a maiden Premier League crown.

Sturridge’s experience within that squad – as one of the few remaining members still at Anfield – could be invaluable as Liverpool look to avoid blowing up just as Rodgers’ edge-of-your-seat side did on that occasion.

He is a strong and popular character within the club – not afraid to speak his mind – and if he can help Klopp avoid even one of the pitfalls Rodgers fell into, then his contribution will be invaluable.
