Tottenham are in the midst of an injury crisis, but carried on ploughing ahead with a last-gasp 2-1 victory over a dogged Fulham side yesterday.
With no new signings on the horizon and sustained underinvestment putting strain on the current players, the opportunity is there for some forgotten men to step forward and make an impression.
Fernando Llorente was handed a start yesterday but did not look sharp – perhaps understandably given his recent lack of gametime – and another outcast was introduced from the bench in the shape of Georges-Kevin Nkoudou.
The wideman does not look to have much of a future at Tottenham – but the same could have been said about Moussa Sissoko before he engineered an unlikely turnaround in fortunes.

And when he was summoned from the bench with Tottenham in search of a winner, Nkoudou produced a stunning ball into the box, perfectly placed for Harry Winks to nod home.
Nkoudou has pace in abundance and is still young enough to improve under Pochettino, who clearly saw something in him or he wouldn’t have brought him to the club in the first place.
And the current injury problems do create an opportunity for fringe players to step up and take their opportunities and if Nkoudou keeps creating chances like the one he made for Winks yesterday, he could complete an unlikely turnaround.
