Stuart Pearce says West Ham player turns up to train even on days off

West Ham’s first-team coach Stuart Pearce has made an intriguing comment about their midfielder Tomas Soucek.

Soucek, 26, has become a firm fan favourite at the London Stadium, and is such a key figure in David Moyes’ XI.

The central midfielder is a major physical presence and gets through plenty of defensive work off the ball alongside Declan Rice, but makes a difference in the other end half of the pitch, too.

He’s currently scored nine goals in 29 league games so far this season, and is dominant in the air.

The Czech Republic international netted a hat-trick on Wednesday for his country to help enhance his reputation.

Pearce has intriguingly shared that Soucek comes into train even when he’s meant to have a day off, which isn’t the biggest surprise when you consider his tenacious work-rate on the pitch.

“He’s got a wonderful attitude to work, on his days off he comes in to work, he’s just really an absolute pleasure to work with,” he told talkSPORT.

TBR’s View:

Aged 26, Soucek looks an absolute monster of a midfielder right now that is only getting better at West Ham, and he’s also the ultimate professional off the pitch by the sounds of it.

His £19million (BBC) deal looks an absolute masterstroke right now, as surely he’d sell for at least three times that if the club were ever looking to sell.

If the Irons can keep the likes of Soucek, Rice and Jess Lingard together, West Ham should be confident of challenging for European positions on a consistent basis.
