Stuart Lovell has told Sky Sports (broadcast on 3/3; 19:55) that Steven Davis was a pleasure to watch in Rangers’ win on Wednesday as the Scottish Premiership title moved yet another step closer towards Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard’s men secured another three points. But it looked destined to go down as a frustrating evening for the Gers at Livingston.

Alfredo Morelos was denied a penalty during the first-half. However, the Colombian had the last laugh as he tapped in from close range with minutes remaining to settle the contest.

But former Livingston player Lovell suggested that it was the man who got the assist who really impressed him over the course of the evening.

“For me, it was a pleasure to watch Steven Davis tonight,” he told Sky Sports. “No surprise to see him as the architect behind the goal there.

“Getting himself in the final third, playing a pass, following, hitting the shot accurately and it spilled to Morelos who just happened to be in the right place at the right time.”

Davis – who earns £18,000-a-week – has been remarkable throughout the campaign. And he was integral to Rangers’s fortunes against Livi.

As shown by Whoscored, he played 70 accurate passes during the game. Incredibly, that left him more than 20 clear of any other player on the pitch.

He once again brought real composure to their performance. So as Lovell notes, it was unsurprising that he was the man to have the shot that set Morelos up for the easiest goal he will score all season.

Davis has been a revelation since returning to Rangers. And despite turning 36 at the start of the year, there seems to be little reason why he cannot continue for some time to come yet.
