Stuart Dallas has told Leeds United’s pre-Millwall press conference – as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post – that the signing of Jean-Kevin Augustin is a “massive boost” and that Ian Poveda has integrated instantly into the Leeds squad.
The Whites have had a busy few days in the transfer market, bringing in three new players in the form of goalkeeper Elia Caprile, Poveda from Manchester City on a free transfer and Augustin on a loan-to-buy deal from RB Leipzig.
Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed that the three new signings will end Leeds’ activity in the window, with Poveda and Augustin replacing the loss of Jack Clarke and Eddie Nketiah – who returned to parent clubs Tottenham and Arsenal respectively.
Leeds ace Dallas – who is one of a number of players to have significantly improved under Bielsa – spoke of how big a lift the signing of Augustin has given the squad, and how quickly winger Poveda has settled in.
On Augustin: “It’s a massive lift. It’s been well documented that people have been crying out for us to sign a striker. It’s a good boost. He’s just arrived today so we’ve all said hello. We’ll all go down and see him as we were training. We’ve not had chance to see him in his boots yet.”
On Poveda: “Fast. Direct, he’s fitted in really well. I haven’t seen a player take to a group like he has. He’s been here a few days but it’s like he’s been here all season.”
TBR’s view – Momentum back despite poor recent form
There is nothing like a couple of exciting signings. Last January, Leeds failed to take advantage of the window as Dan James escaped their grasp due to Swansea’s owners – and ultimately the Whites paid the price, missing out on promotion.
Just one win in their last seven league games has seen the atmosphere around Leeds begin to worsen, with supporters concerned of another collapse. But the signings of Poveda and Augustin has reinvigorated the Leeds support.
A win against Millwall at Elland Road on Tuesday night would show proof that the momentum is firmly back in place.
