Crystal Palace and Newcastle are both experiencing problematic summers for different reasons.
The Eagles still have no idea which European competition they will play in next season as a legal battle against UEFA drags on – the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) are expected to determine whether Crystal Palace will be let back into the Europa League on August 11th.
Over at Newcastle, Eddie Howe faces the prospect of losing Alexander Isak – who is eager to leave amidst interest from Liverpool.
Now, a striker the Magpies are looking at to potentially replace the Sweden international in Evann Guessand is close to joining Crystal Palace.
Crystal Palace close to signing Evann Guessand
Chris Wheatley now states on Sporting News that the south Londoners are nearing a deal for the Ivory Coast international.
The respected journalist believes Crystal Palace are in advanced talks for Guessand – who TBR Football understand Leeds and Sunderland also like – with those at Selhurst Park confident of reaching an agreement soon.
Wheatley adds that the Eagles have also already discussed personal terms with the Ivorian’s representatives.
It comes after Africa Foot claimed that Newcastle had opened talks to sign Guessand from OGC Nice, with the Magpies impressed after he scored 13 goals and provided ten assists in 42 appearances last season.
The 24-year-old is understood to be valued at £22m.
Newcastle have other options to replace Alexander Isak
TBR Football understand Newcastle are making attempts to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford as Isak looks set to depart.
As of now, the Magpies have abandoned talks after Brentford demanded £50m – a steep valuation for a player with only 11 months left on his deal. However, the situation does not appear over, as Wissa is now refusing to train with the Bees as he pushes to leave.
Newcastle also like Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig, and could sign the Slovenia international after Arsenal opted to buy Viktor Gyokeres instead.
An easier deal for the Magpies is also on the table.
Newcastle are understood to admire Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and the England international is available on a free transfer after his contract with Everton expired.
Therefore, Newcastle have several options to focus on as Guessand nears a move to Crystal Palace.
