Striker admits he’s really enjoying life after moving on from West Ham

A former West Ham striker has admitted he is enjoying life away from the London Stadium.

West Ham have struggled for goals this season but appear to have turned the page after sacking Graham Potter and swiftly hiring Nuno Espirito Santo as his replacement.

Nuno will look to drag them away from the relegation zone and has already brought about steady improvements, which were on display in the 1-1 draw at Everton and the 2-0 defeat against Arsenal.

Crucially, they have also carried more of a goal threat despite Niclas Fullkrug and Callum Wilson struggling, but reinforcements will be desperately needed up front.

Evan Ferguson says Roma move has been ‘great’

Finding a reliable goal scorer has been a constant thorn in West Ham’s side, and Evan Ferguson arrived on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion for the second half of last season to help fix it.

But the Republic of Ireland international made just eight appearances under Graham Potter, who handed him his big breakthrough at Brighton, and started only once.

It was no surprise, then, that he was unable to break his duck for West Ham, which put an end to any hopes the club would buy him permanently.

Ferguson has since joined Roma, again on loan, and will attempt to find some much-needed stability after his career was rocked by injuries and poor form.

Speaking to RTE Sport, he admitted he is relishing the new challenge in Italy.

“So, it’s been good,” said Ferguson. “The fans are crazy, which is great. As for Rome itself – the eternal city – they’re not wrong. It’s one of the most beautiful cities.

“It’s cool, a bit weird, but nice to live somewhere people come for sightseeing and holidays, you know? I’ve explored a bit and really enjoyed it.

“Training over here is pretty different compared to England. It’s more intense; you do a lot more in each session. Other than that, not much has changed, but I’m feeling good, thankfully.”

Premier League giants wanted to sign Evan Ferguson

Only as recently as last season, Arsenal and Tottenham were interested in Ferguson, while Chelsea were known to have closely monitored his situation.

Brighton once saw Ferguson as an £80million player, but his price tag has since plummeted as the 20-year-old looks for some stability and consistency.

He had been nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award after an impressive 2022-23 campaign in which he scored nine goals and made his senior Republic of Ireland debut.

However, Ferguson has scored just one goal at club level since November 2023.
