Micah Richards has admitted he’s surprised that Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung-min Son is never linked with moves to the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Heung-min Son delivered a Man of the Match performance on Sunday as Spurs thrashed Aston Villa 4-0.

The 31-year-old provided two assists and grabbed himself a goal on the day as Tottenham blew away their top-four rivals at Villa Park.

Son continues to provide for Spurs in the final third, having netted 14 goals and provided eight assists already this season.

The Spurs skipper has emerged as a target for the Saudi Pro League over the past year but Tottenham are keen to offer the forward a new deal.

But Micah Richards is surprised that Son hasn’t gained admiring glances from clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Richards surprised Son hasn’t been linked with Real Madrid move

Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Richards claimed it’s ‘strange’ Son hasn’t been linked with a move to Europe’s biggest clubs.

“You know the strange thing when we talk about top players and we always give Son his credit,” the former Manchester City man said. “But you know when people are sort of linked with teams, Son never really seems to get linked with a Barcelona or a Real Madrid.”

Gary Lineker responded: “Because he’s playing for one!”

“They’re a massive club, Spurs! But I mean he’s world-class, literally,” Richards added.

“He’s unbelievable. His work-rate, his technique, his running in behind, his finishing. He’s got absolutely everything.”

Spurs fans will certainly be thankful that Son isn’t attracting interest from the likes of Madrid and Barca.

But Richards makes a great point that, surprisingly, Son hasn’t received interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The South Korean has proven himself as a world-class forward over the years and always delivers in the biggest moments for Tottenham.

Nevertheless, Son seems fully committed to Spurs and that could be a huge factor as to why he hasn’t been linked with a move elsewhere.

He also penned a new deal back in 2021, which came at a time when Harry Kane was pushing for a move to Manchester City.
