A number of Arsenal fans have wished Matt Macey well after his permanent move away from the Emirates Stadium on Friday.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper had been on the Gunners’ books since October 2013, when he joined the academy from Bristol Rovers.
Macey made just two competitive appearances for Arsenal, both of them in 2017-18 – a 0-0 draw with Red Star in the Europa League and a League Cup fourth-round extra-time win over Norwich.
The 6ft 7in ace has also been out on loan three times over the years – at Accrington Stanley, Luton Town and Plymouth Argyle.
In September, Macey told The Telegraph about how he was looking to leave Arsenal and forge his own path as a first-choice player.
Although Macey didn’t get much senior game time for the Gunners, some fans were sad to see him go – here are some of the comments on social media:
Why you sell this guy?

Should be Runarsson going the other way not Matt

We seem to have cornered the field in getting rid of good keepers and in favour of not so good…Martinez has just been voted into the European team of the year.. good luck Matt…

Why are we getting rid of goalkeepers? Surely that’s the wrong one to be selling

Macey should be our no. 2 this season. Not the other guy

Another one down. Best of luck to him.

Macey’s departure means Karl Hein or Arthur Okonkwo could step up as Arsenal’s third-choice keeper, behind Bernd Leno and Alex Runarsson.
