‘Stop it’… Gary Neville says 27-year-old Tottenham player made him ‘angry’ last night

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has had his say on Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma after he picked up a red card against Nottingham Forest last night.

A night game at the City Ground is never easy, but Spurs dominated large parts of the fixture yesterday. Goals from Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski sealed the win, but Bissouma’s red card has dampened the mood a little bit.

Gary Neville slams Tottenham star Yves Bissouma after his red card

Tottenham have been a joy to watch this season thanks to Ange Postecoglou, but the one area where they have been really poor is their discipline.

Spurs have been shown 46 yellow cards and four red cards so far this term. Yves Bissouma‘s sending-off last night was his second of this campaign, and it really was a reckless challenge.

The Mali international lunged in with his studs showing. He caught Ryan Yates high on his knee and definitely deserved the red card for that challenge.

Gary Neville had his say on Bissouma’s sending-off yesterday, and he’s not happy at all. The Manchester United legend urged Spurs to stop making such rash challenges.

He said on Sky Sports: “We’ve not seen these for years, these types of challenges. These have got to stop.  It’s a straight red, banned for three games, and absolutely, I’ve got no sympathy whatsoever. They don’t exist anymore [these challenges]. They were outlawed 10 or 15 years ago! They seem to have come back in this last month or two.

“They’ve got to stop it because they’re going to cost Tottenham. Spurs will drop points without these players. If they’re injured, you can’t do anything about it. But if they’re continually being rash and reckless with these challenges, it becomes stupidity, it’s madness.

“I bet he’s angry inside. I bet the Spurs fans are angry. I’m a little bit angry because I’ve not watched a team play football for a few years that have excited me as much as this team in terms of knowing that I’m going to get a good game of football.

“They’ve got to stop those little bits of ill-discipline. I accept that it’s commitment but they just seem to do it regularly. They have got to stop it.”

Tottenham’s Bissouma may not play again till February

Tottenham star Yves Bissouma’s red card last night was his second of the season, which means the Mali international will be suspended for four games.

The 27-year-old will now be unavailable for Spurs’ games against Everton, Brighton and Bournemouth in the Premier League and then Burnley in the FA Cup.

At that point, Bissouma will be off to represent Mali in the African Cup of Nations, and even if they get knocked out in the group stages, he will only be back at the end of January. That means there’s a big chance his next appearance for Tottenham will be in February.

Bissouma will be a big miss for Spurs, but he can only blame himself for this situation.
