‘Stood out’… Joe Cole says Chelsea have a player who is more ‘forward thinking’ than James Maddison

James Maddison has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season for Tottenham, but he was outshone by one Chelsea star on Monday.

Indeed, while Maddison had to go off injured against Chelsea after struggling to make much of an impact, Cole Palmer was brilliant for the Blues, scoring a vital goal and playing some fantastic stuff.

Speaking on the DR Sports YouTube channel, Joe Cole has made an interesting comparison between the two.

Cole says that Palmer is the player that has stood out the most for him at Chelsea this season, claiming that he reminds him of Maddison, stating that he is actually a bit more forward-thinking than the England international.

Palmer more forward-thinking than Maddison

Cole spoke about Chelsea’s summer signing.

“The one player who has stood out for me over the past few weeks is Cole Palmer, a young player. He has the mindset, he reminds me a lot of James Maddison, he’s probably more forward-thinking than James, he’s more of a forward while James is more of a midfielder. He’s one who over the next five years, we can build a team and he will be an integral part of it,” Cole said.

Exciting

Whether or not you agree with Cole about Palmer being more positive as a player than Maddison is up to you, but it has to be said that both players are incredibly exciting.

After years of failing to produce a top-class number 10, England now have two fantastic attacking midfielders to call upon should they wish to, and that’s before we even speak about the likes of Phil Foden and Eberechi Eze as well.

Palmer and Maddison are two absolutely fantastic players, and we’re sure this isn’t the last time they’ll both be compared to each other as they continue to become more and more important to their new clubs.
