Stoke City defender Nathan Collins is eyeing ‘revenge’ against Leeds United tonight, The Stoke Sentinel reports. Leeds host Stoke at Elland Road in the EFL Cup tonight – three days after thrashing them 3-0 at the bet365 Stadium.
Collins captained Stoke in the league for the first time at the weekend. And he wants to keep his place in the side, even though Nathan Jones might consider resting him for next weekend’s clash with Birmingham City.
The 18-year-old told The Stoke Sentinel: “If the manager wants me, I’ll be there, and I’ll be straight at them. I’m looking for revenge because this hurt. Whatever happens Tuesday, I want to be there and I want to play and be at my best, which I know I can be.”
Leeds brushed aside Stoke’s challenge with an easy 3-0 win last weekend. Stuart Dallas, Gjanni Alioski and Patrick Bamford scored the goals for Marcelo Bielsa’s rampant team. Collins is hoping to learn from Saturday’s disappointment and turn things around.
Bielsa could rotate his squad for this midweek cup tie with Eddie Nketiah hoping for a start. Nketiah will give Collins a different challenge to Bamford. It will be a less physical battle for the Republic of Ireland U19 international – who stands at 6ft 4in tall – and more of a tactical challenge.
Nketiah finds pockets of space and pops up in the right place at the right time to score. Helder Costa and Jack Clarke will also hope for starts so the challenge does not get any easier for Collins – if he is selected.
