Stoke City sign Joe “the Welsh Xavi” Allen from Liverpool – Twitter reacts

After much speculation, Euro 2016 team of the tournament midfielder and Andrea Pirlo lookalike Joe Allen has completed a move to the Bet365 Stadium to join Stoke City. The Potters tonight confirmed that the Welshman had completed a £13 million move to the club to wear the red and white stripes.

The midfielder found his chances at Anfield limited under Jurgen Klopp, playing just 19 Premier League games and only completing 90 minutes three times last season. After a superb performance at the Euros, Allen was keen to find regular first-team football, and that looks set to be the case at Stoke.

Now teaming up with former Wales manager Mark Hughes, Allen will be hoping to start a new era of which he will likely become symbolic, of quicker passing football, completely distinct from the Tony Pulis era which some Potters fans had become accustomed to.

For a fee of £13 million, it seems a bargain for the 26-year-old, who only had one more year to run on his contract at Anfield. Whilst a good squad player, and slowly becoming a cult hero, the Brendan Rodgers’ favourite looked like his days were numbered under Klopp, and he will now be hoping to continue his superb summer form at Stoke.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the news:
