Stoke City fans hammer Tottenham loanee Cameron Carter-Vickers

Cameron Carter-Vickers was used as a makesift right-back as Michael O’Neill suffered his first defeat since taking over at Stoke City with a 1-0 loss to Cardiff City – and Stoke fans have hammered the Tottenham defender for his efforts.

The 21-year-old was a regular until O’Neill came in. The Northern Ireland gaffer benched Carter-Vickers against Barnsley, and left him out of the entire 18-man squad for the 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic at the weekend.

But Carter-Vickers was thrusted back into the starting line-up – but at the slightly awkward position of right-back, replacing Tom Edwards. It is fair to say the United States international struggled on the right side of defence.

He came up against Junior Hoilett and the Canadian’s pace was difficult to handle for Carter-Vickers. Midfielder Leandro Bacuna scored the only goal of the game after good work from target man Gary Madine.

Carter-Vickers is currently on loan at his fourth England Football League side, after appearing for Sheffield United, Ipswich Town and Swansea City so far. But there are still huge question makrs surrounding his future at Spurs.

He has only made four senior appearances for Tottenham, and his contract with the north Londoners expires in the summer of 2021. Stoke fans were unimpressed with the defensive powerhouse, which is worrying for Tottenham.
