Stoke remain unambitious under Mark Hughes

The Potters have developed into a stable Premier League side under Mark Hughes with many exciting players in their ranks. However, they may have reached a glass ceiling in what they can achieve under the Welshman. It is looking likely that they will once again finish in mid-table and a change of manager could be required to take them to the next level. Their main aim every season is to remain a Premier League club, but the supporters will want to see progression and that hasn’t really been the case this campaign.

They were unambitious this afternoon against Chelsea. Stoke has a reputation for being a difficult place for the big teams to visit, but they have lost that in recent seasons. It was too easy for the visitors to dominate possession and they were allowed to get shots in without any pressure at times. Despite the match being level for a long period, the home side rode their luck as the league leaders weren’t as clinical in front of goal as they usually are.
