Burnley show lack of quality

Sean Dyche will have been relatively content with his team’s second half performance against Stoke, but the Burnley manager will certainly be concerned by the lack of quality that his current squad possesses in the final third of the pitch.

The Clarets were hard-working, ran for ninety minutes and showed resilience and character to keep on pushing for a goal, but in reality it is quality that the club desperately require if they are to maintain their place in the Premier League.

Goals have been in short supply for Burnley so far this campaign and whilst Ashley Barnes, Sam Vokes and Andre Gray all led the attacking line at some point on Saturday, you never truly felt that they were destined to get on the score sheet.

The creative influence of Steven Defour was left sitting on the bench and the visiting supporters may well be wondering if Patrick Bamford, the on-loan Chelsea striker who was also an unused substitute, could be the ready-made solution to their goal scoring conundrum.

Regardless, Sean Dyche needs to bring in reinforcements when the transfer window re-opens in January and a proven Premier League striker should be a priority.
