'Still waiting': 26-year-old Arsenal player's move could be hijacked at very last minute - Fabrizio Romano
Fabrizio Romano says on Twitter that the Turkish outfit are still waiting for the green light from the 26-year-old over joining them.
That has given some hope to other sides that they can muscle their way in there during the delay and get a deal done.
It has been clear for most of the summer that Torreira will leave the Emirates Stadium before the end of the transfer window.
Torreira close to leaving Arsenal for Galatasaray
Torreira spent the previous season on loan in Italy at Fiorentina, where he impressed with his performances and seemed to get his career back on track.
But a permanent move to the Serie A outfit failed to materialise and the midfielder could not hide his frustration.
He wrote in a post on Instagram: “Dear “Tifosi” from ACF Fiorentina. Unfortunately, the time has come to say goodbye.
“It is with great sadness that my relationship with ACF Fiorentina ends. Club that gave me so much love and support all this time.
“From the beginning they made me feel at home. I discovered a wonderful city that was always kind to me, both on and off the pitch.
“They always showed me affection, respect and for that, I will always be grateful. Thanks to his trust I was able to find the continuity and level I wanted. I owe that to my teammates and all the fans who gave us energy game by game.
“Know that I always left everything on the field of play for these colours. Special thanks to all the club staff; cooks, props, manager, physiotherapist and security. They are the fundamental piece for the functioning of this institution.
“Know that I did my best to continue being part of this club, but unfortunately there were those who, acting in a bad way, according to my understanding, managed to prevent this from happening and that is why I have to leave. I wish you the best for the future. They will have one more fan cheering from wherever I have to be.”
And it seems he is not 100 per cent sold yet on the idea of going to Galatasaray, but the deal is close and if he does give the green light, it looks set to go ahead.
Arsenal are finally pushing on with getting unwanted players out of the club as Mikel Arteta hones his squad for the season ahead.
Torreira was signed by Unai Emery and despite Arsenal’s need for another central midfielder this summer, there was never any realistic hope that the Uruguayan would get a reprieve and be that man.
