Arsenal fans have been left raving about Manuel Locatelli after his display for Juventus in the Champions League last night.
The one that got away?
Arsenal pushed to sign Locatelli in the summer, with his agent even confirming to the London Evening Standard that the Gunners had made a #34 million bid.
However, Arsenal were just never really able to convince the Italian international that they would be a better option for him than Juventus.
In the end Juve managed to secure the signing of Locatelli, with the midfielder quickly proving his quality in Turin.
The 23-year-old has made a bright start with the Italian side, and his performance against Chelsea last night was very impressive.
Locatelli helped Juve to a 1-0 win over Thomas Tuchel’s men, and Arsenal fans certainly were impressed with the display of the £34 million man.
Midfield strength needed
In the end Arsenal’s only midfield signing over the summer was Albert Sambi Lokonga.
Lokonga has shown signs of promise so far, but he is not quite as proven a player as Locatelli.
Lokonga could be set to play an important role at Arsenal over the coming weeks, though.
With Granit Xhaka out injured there is a gap in Mikel Arteta’s starting line-up, and he looks the most likely candidate to come in.
