Stiliyan Petrov has told The Celtic Huddle podcast – as per the Daily Record – that both Roy Keane and Eddie Howe would be excellent appointments at Parkhead, having played alongside Keane during his brief spell in a Celtic shirt.
Celtic are still yet to appoint a permanent replacement to Neil Lennon after the Northern Irishman resigned as Celtic boss following a 1-0 loss to Ross County. John Kennedy remains in interim charge, last seeing his side drawing with Rangers.
The Hoops have been linked with a whole host of managers, ranging from Frank Lampard, Roberto Martinez, Rafa Benitez and more recently, Enzo Maresca and Lucien Favre. But the two most-likely candidates seem to be Keane and Howe.
Keane only ever managed 13 appearances for Celtic having joined the club in 2005, but Petrov believes his time at Parkhead will help him if he was to be appointed Hoops boss. Meanwhile, he is also confident Howe would take the Hoops forward.

“Roy Keane and Eddie Howe are two very strong candidates,” Petrov said. “Both of them are completely different. Roy is fearless. We played with him, we know how fearless he is. He is strongly opinionated. He knows what Celtic means.
“Eddie Howe has done a great job down in England and has had a tremendous amount of success with Bournemouth. Everyone talks so highly of him. It’s two candidates with a very strong possibility to take Celtic to the next level.”
TBR’s view – Howe or Keane?
The difference is is that Howe has been in work more recently, and is probably more tactically minded than Keane. But Steven Gerrard has proved at Rangers that Celtic need to hire a manager that has the calibre to attract players to Glasgow.
Keane has that more so than Howe. A combination of the duo would be ideal, but both have advantages and disadvantages. Right now, if Celtic had to choose between either of them – the best choice would be Howe, given Keane last managing in 2011.
