Steven Pienaar has joined a number of Everton fans in taking to Twitter to laud Ross Barkley after the former Toffees star bagged a stunning goal against Liverpool in the FA Cup on Tuesday night.
Barkley helped Chelsea to a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge. The midfielder produced a fantastic run from his own half before smashing the ball past Adrian for the home side’s second goal.

It was only Barkley’s third goal of the campaign for the Blues. And it appears that a number of Everton fans have been left delighted because of the opposition it came against.
Admittedly, it quickly becomes apparent on social media that there were not going to be too many situations that would result in Barkley receiving plaudits from the Everton supporters.

There remains a lot of bad feeling due to his departure. But scoring a fantastic goal to help knock Liverpool out of the FA Cup has gone down well with many.
Some have joked about how he has always remained a popular figure amongst the Goodison Park faithful, while others have expressed some disappointment that the Toffees do not have him in their ranks after seeing the best of him on Tuesday.
And former teammate Pienaar also took to social media to praise the Englishman following his goal.
It does look unlikely that Barkley is going to ever be a fan favourite amongst Everton fans again – of course, Wayne Rooney perhaps shows that there may still be a way back in the future – but the supporters were pleased to see him play a key role in ending Liverpool’s FA Cup hopes.
Here is how Pienaar and the Everton fans reacted to Barkley’s goal…
