Steven Gerrard’s comments after 4-1 win show winning mentality

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard was not impressed with his team’s performance despite winning 4-1 against Hamilton Academical.

Hamilton had been on course to pick up a point but a late Rangers show pushed the game in their favour.

Ryan Kent had given Rangers the lead but Hamilton equalised through Steven Boyd.

And it took until the 84th minute before the Gers retook the lead. James Tavernier grabbed a goal from the penalty spot and followed it up with another penalty three minutes later.

Alfredo Morelos put the gloss on the score line by netting Rangers’ fourth in stoppage time.

But in reality, the score did not reflect Rangers’ performance and Gerrard was not impressed with how his team played.

He said: “I’m not too pleased with the display. I thought we were average at best.”

These comments show a winning mentality which has perhaps been the missing link at Rangers in recent times.

Despite picking up a win to move within five points of top spot, Gerrard was left frustrated with the performance.

He is a perfectionist and is always looking for ways to improve his players.

Gerrard will keep pushing his team to achieve the best they possibly can and that is why they should be competing for silverware by the end of the season.

Whether that is in the league or in the cups will become clear later in the campaign but these comments should encourage Rangers fans.
